Categories Flash Backs, Theatre

Tan Tay Po was seventeen when she became the seventh wife. Cheong Fatt Tze was seventy years old when he married her. His mansion took seven years to build, seven years to restore.

But it was no coincidence for Singporean actress Tan Kheng Hua decided to portray the inconspicuous personnel of the illustrious businessman’s seventh wife. She was inspired by the magnificent architecture of The Blue Mansion, once belonged to Cheong Fatt Tze, during her visit in George Town, Penang.

#7 is a lecture performance directed by award-winning director Kaylene Tan, shown in Cheong Fatt Tze mansion. The theatre brings the audiences on journey that threads the personal, fictional and history of the mysterious seventh’s wife in the household.

Tan Kheng Hua also played Veronica Wee, the daughter-in-law of an Asian wealthy tycoon, in the The Blue Mansion (2009) which was filmed at the same location. She is best known to Malaysians as Margaret in the TV sitcom Phua Chu Kang.

#7 performed during George Town Festival 2011. George Town Festival is one of the major ASEAN arts festival in Malaysia, organised by Joe Sidek Productions Sdn Bhd.
